Philippines Flag

The Philippines Flag is a colorful and meaningful flag with blue over red bicolor. The white equilateral triangle with golden sun and golden pointed stars adds on to the beauty and significance of the flag.

White trainable in the flag comprises of sun, 8 rays and three stars. The sun signifies a new dawn imparting willpower and desire to defeat Spaniards during 1897, 8 rays signifies the 8 provinces that fought against the Spanish rule and the three stars are for the three main geographic locations of the country. Red panel or the stripe in the flag symbolizes bravery and courage whereas the blue panel or stripe symbolizes noble ideals.

It is believed that the flag of the Philippines has a unique ability to display the country’s state of war. The display is characterized by the orientation of red and blue panels; when blue is above red, it signifies peace and when red is above blue, it signifies war.

The flag was first deigned in 1897 by the General Aguinaldo and was adopted on May 19, 1898. The flag was first hosted on May 28, 1898, a day known as the Flag Day, when the General Aguinaldo’s army overpowered the Spain army at the battle of Alapan. Few days after the defeat, on June 12, 1898, Philippines got complete independence from Spain and began the first republic. Thereafter, the flag was flown with the blue panel up.

Even after hosting the first flag, Philippines flag had undergone a long time evolution to get the final flag the country holds today.
